Fifty Shades of Grey is one of the most anticipated films for the year. The film is based on the world wide best selling novel of the same name If you have not read the book, well its a pretty decent novel. The book is about Christian Grey, megalomaniac, who has endured a harrowing past as a child. By happenstance Christian meets Anastacia Steele, who was requested by her best friend, Kate Kavanaugh, whom was indisposed on the day of the interview, hence she asked Anastacia to interview Christian for the school magazine, due to Christian being one of the primary benefactor for their University. During their brief encounter in Christian's office at Grey Enterprise, Anastacia Steele is completely flushed by Christian presence. His penetrating gaze from grey eyes, stern cadence, authoritative countenance and sterile ambiance is all unerving to Anastacia, and yet captivating. "No man has ever affected me the way Christian Grey has, and I cannot fathom why. Is it his looks? His civility? Wealth? Power? I don't understand my irrational reaction. I breathe an enormous amount sigh of relief. What in heaven name was that all about! Leaning against one of the steel pillar of the building, I valiantly attempted to calm down and gather my thought. I shake my head. What was that! My heart steadies to its regular rhythm and when I can breathe normally again I head for the car." Chap 2 pg: 17 Despite his calm reserve in the presence of Anastacia, Christian is entrance by her. Regardless of his signature taste in females with blond features- illustrated profoundly in the novel- surprisingly he is entrance by Ana( for short) notwithstanding she is a brunette, scruffy and uncoordinated. Despite her obvious insecurities, Christian is attracted to Ana subtle appeal and introduces her into his world of sadistmasochism which features dominant and submissive contract, red room of pain among other things. As times progresses, Ana discovers the mercurial personality of Christian, ranging from his controlling behavior to his raving sexual appetite. She also uncovers the torment he has experience and why she is unable to touch him. Eventually Ana realizes that despite Christian fortunes, clinical behavior, there is a man that suffered immensely and only desires to be loved. Fifty Shades of Grey explicit sexual descriptive content makes it startling to see how this is all depicted on the big screen. It was even made public about the lack of chemistry in the lovemaking on set between the two main actor- James Dornan and Dakota Johnson (read here). What do you expect of such circumstance? Imagine the compromising position both lead actors had to endure to reenact the scenes of intense intimacy while 50 or more shady persons sits, film and watch. Trust me when I state that the sexual acts are beyond the normal R- rating of a film. It is surprising how the film acquired standard cinema rating from the MPAA. So lascivious was the movie that many critics labeled it has sophomore porn, but as I stated in my previous blog what exactly does a critic screen a film for. Let us know what you are looking for. If you have watch Birdman, there is moment when Michael Keaton character, Riggan Thomson was bashing a critic. The words he uses, I believe is an accurate representation of some of these critic. Returning my focus to what I discussing before I digress Fifty Shades of Grey overwrought with sex. Literally like almost every chapter in the novel has some form of sexual connotation. The film is neither short of sexual scenes, but i must admit it is distributed equally within the running time.
Truthfully, Fifty Shades of Grey Movie deserves praise for honoring the essence of the source and directors effort to balance the atmosphere with match. Read Fifty Shades Review. With the success of the first film, there is plans for the follow up, but there is some sort of creative control being ironed out. The film opened with an astounding 239 million globally. Impressive opening since the film is not in the ranks of a Superhero films. Its the highest opening for a films adaptation. Not even Twilight had that such momentum. Can the film directors continue the novel success with the promise of the sequel? Or will be film success descend into Fifty Shades of Grim. Strongly doubt it. Sex sells and Fifty Shades of Grey has a lot of it. Simple curiosity will indeed lure a large viewership into the Theater, especially in an era where sexual taboo provides widespread intrigue.

I wonder exactly what do critics or a panel of judges look for in a movie to award it their grand trophy and grandeur reviews. As a result of the commendation and the flurry of awards given to the film Birdman and Boyhood I took the liberty on myself to watch and review both films because I was curious to know what the buzz is about.
First I decided to watch Birdman, because Michael Keaton and Edward are both stellar actors, so this would be easier to consume. I must admit Birdman film postures an elaborate classical appeal. It boast a showbiz satire that exceeds the creative boundaries There's a modern naturalism in Michael Keaton performance. Then I watch Boyhood. Honestly speaking it was a really nice but truth be told there wasn't anything fancy about the film. Literally the film was sort of dry, but decent to watch. It illustrate in a thematic progress a boy transitioning into a man. Though the running time was almost close to a Lord of the Rings, my attention was held throughout the film. Regardless of my rapt focus, I was waiting for something sensational that would let me say damgood, but there was nothing eye popping or show stopping to made me say wow! Now I decided to ask multiple persons about the film Selma and ask them about their reviews, because I was pondering if I was the only one who saw the soul shivering titillating performance of David Oyelowo. I mean how David brought Martin Luther King to life was startlingly amazing. It rare you see an actor who has the ability to replicate an iconic figure, similarly to Jamie Foxx performance of Ray Charles. Following my request for my team to review Selma, I requested that they review Boyhood and Birdman to hear their feedback, then compare it to Selma. Let me tell you I trust my team completely, therefore when I asked their opinion, I'm confident they will give me best judgement. Altogether they praised the three films but was most delighted by 'Selma'. Their response favored Selma compared to Boyhood and Birdman. They were immensely enamored with David performance to the extent of thinking its was a reborn of MLK. His passion and vehement oratory pioneer and manifested the story-line to success. As stated not many actors can bring that kind of performance to the forefront of Hollywood. Selma was nominated for four Golden Globe Award: Best Drama Motion picture, Best Director, Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture and Best Song. From those nominations the movie only won best song which the indignation is grossly unfortunate. The film I strongly believes deserves an accolade more than just Best Song. Fundamentally, you’re stating that the only thing that was worth awarding in the entire running time of the movie was a soundtrack. Obviously nothing else within the film deserved consideration. On the other hand, Birdman won 2 and Boyhood won 3 Golden Globe award. While Birdman and Boyhood has been nominated for eight and six Oscar Awards respectively, Selma has only been nominated for only two. This is general disregard the academy displays towards Black films. The academy and the industry it mirrors manage diversity the same way that corporate America does by ticking off boxes. That means that after Kathryn Bigelow won as best director in 2010 for Hurtlocker”- the only female director to have won in the award 87 years- there was no reason to even nominate her again for the extraordinary “Zero Dark Thirty” The “woman thing” had been checked off already. And it also means that even though”12 Years a Slave” won best picture, its director, Stave McQueen, did not receive similar acclaim because that win took care of “The black thing. It has been noted that this, although nine black actors were nominated in the last six years, not a single person of color is among the 20 nominated lead and supporting actors. “The Academy vote for 12 years was like pulling teeth,” said Sasha Stone, a longtime Oscar observer who runs the blog Awards Daily. “To this day, I don’t think many members even saw it and now that it won, the academy has snapped back like a rubber band, to what they know, to film that are made in their own image.” That may be partly why “Selma” received very little attention from the various Hollywood guilds- directors and actors- as they handed out kudos and why it received only two Oscar nominations. By contrast, “American Sniper,” a portrait of American greatness directed by Clint Eastwood that drew mixed received six Correct me if I may be wrong, but sometimes it appears there is some form of bias against black actors. No this is not a race card, because I'm not black. But I strongly believe if a movie is damgood it should be awarded accordingly. However, not the entire world employs the same outlook. Regardless black actor are getting their recognition in films, I still believe a lot of work still needs to be done in how their performance are measured. Even when these black films win an award, they are very few black films that run away with more than one or two Oscars including Best Actor, Best Picture Best director and so forth all in one year- with the exception of 12 Years of Slave. What are these panels implying that Black films don't possess that level of value to receive awards beyond their petty commiseration? Although Hollywood is making strides in ensuring theirs diversity in the industry, more commitment needs to allotted in assuring that regardless of the color role of the film it will impartially and honorably awarded what is due. Hey everyone, its been a while since I blogged. I want to talk to you about the American Sniper. The film has being receiving flurry of praise and good word of mouth. So far the film has grossed 248 million in North America alone; and a further 70 million overseas. The films is perhaps on its way to surpass the war drama film: Saving Private Ryan. There are many elements of the film to assess, especially areas where the controversies mostly surround. Countless persons have chastised the film about the portrayal of Kyle, its ambition to distort the truth, and subtle manner in which it glorifies war. In some instance I agree with these persons whom have admonished the film, but some of them I believe might be exaggerating. But It all depends on which perspective you gauge the film, because different people will have differed opinions. Once we can accept this and honor it, the world would be a better place. However, we all attempt to impose our beliefs and ideologies on others in one way or another. Anyways, I digress. What I am trying to say is the American Sniper holistically captures Kyle's struggles and how he has to learn to endeavor throughout his campaign is inspiring. You truly feel that if Kyle can overcome these issues he has to contend with, so can you. The movie is unabashedly intense, emotional and incessantly delivers on the edge suspense. The problem is the film in some manner does lionize the concept of war; the movie is extremely violent. There are moments when Kyle subtly disregards the life of the Iraqi civilians as he eliminates them. It illustrate a scant disdain for the lives of these person as a result of not being wrapped in the American flag. Moreover the vile how these lives are snuffed like they are dogs and exhibiting on the big screen is immensely frightening. Though I love movies, I am not apt on seeing children being killed in such grotesque manner. This among other things somewhat derailed my interest in the film that I had to halt the film for a moment while i gather my composure. Regaining my sense of normalcy subsequent the stark shock, I began to playing the film again. Obviously the film is not for the faint of heart. But the film sort of demonstrate the cruel reality that transpires in an actual war-zone.
Also, American Sniper like its main character, has serious credibility issues. When a film is marketed as "based on the TRUE STORY", then effort is made to fictionalizes the content and fabricate the dialogue in order to portray an actual military figure in a more admirable light, then the filmmakers have crossed from portrayal into propaganda. In his own life Kyle boast about things that were not true. For example his tussle with Jesse Ventura. Although there are many discrepancy, American Sniper is profound on its own battleground, especially for those who have paid homage to their country by serving. But the movie intentionally disregards humanity outside the American sphere; a expression of exceptional-ism and jingoism; promoting the use of force and imperialism on the lives of others. American Sniper is exceptional, but is dwarfed by the ruthless execution of the lives and values of others.
