Dont Breathe Stifles New Comers Morgan And Blows Out The Light Between Ocean To Dominate On September 3-5 Box Office Weekend
Stifling Morgan and blowing out the LIght Between Oceans, Dont Breathe dominates the box office for a second consecutive weekend.
It was a very slow Labor Day weekend at the box office, which benefitted the holdovers more than the newcomers.
In the number one spot again is Don’t Breathe with $15.8 million. The horror film dropped only 40.6 percent from its opening weekend, indicating that it has strong legs commercially and has found a sizable audience. To date, it’s grossed $51.1 million domestically, far surpassing its minuscule $9.9 million production budget. Thanks to its strong reviews, Don’t Breathe has been another bright spot at the end of summer and did well financially.
Suicide Squad comes in second, making 9.9 million in its fifth weekend. The latest installment in the DC Extended Universe is now up to $297.4 million in the United States, topping the domestic total of Man of Steel. It now stands at an impressive $672.9 million worldwide, notching another box office success for the DCEU.
The #3 film is Kubo and the Two Strings, which brought in $6.37 million during its third weekend. It now stands at $34.3 million.
In third is Pete’s Dragon with $6.34million. The family film increased its domestic total to $64.2 million.
Rounding out the top five is Sausage Party. The R-rated animated romp brought in another $5.1million to raise its domestic total to $88.4 million.
Outside of The Top Five: In eight is the new film The Light Between Oceans, which grossed $4.7 million in its first three days. The smaller movie was aided by the presence of stars Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander, providing it with recognizable names to draw in the indie crowds. It was also aided by generally positive reviews, which encouraged members of its target audience to check it out.

al to $38.7 million.
Outside the top 10: New sci-fi film Morgan was an absolute disaster for Fox, making only $2.0 million in its first three days. That ranked 18th on the weekend charts and barely beat Finding Dory, which has been playing since June. Morgan had a minimal marketing campaign, so awareness was obviously an issue. On top of that, the critical reception was not very enthusiastic, causing many viewers to skip it.
