The Battle Of God & Man Decimated The Jungle as Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Takes #1 Spot On March 25-27 2016 Box Office Weekend
Justice was served as The battle between Gods And Man decimated the jungle as Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice dethrones Zootopia to take the #1 spot.
As the greatest gladiator match in the history of the world unfolded, moviegoers showed up and broke plenty of box office records.
Running away in first place is, obviously, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (read our review). The DC Comics film grossed an astonishing $166.0 million in its first three days, which is a new all-time high for an opening weekend in March (by nearly $20 million). It’s also the biggest debut for a Warner Bros. movie ever, narrowly eclipsing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2‘s $169.1 million. Though it was plagued by largely negative reviews prior to its release, Batman V Superman managed to capitalize on audience hype and anticipation, surpassing the expectations that were set for it (around $150 million) and getting the DC Extended Universe off to a great start. WB has a flagship franchise. It also performed extremely well overseas, as the global total is $424.1 million. That’s more than half of what the film needed to bring in to turn a profit, and with the competition set to be minimal for the next few weeks, Dawn of Justice is well on its way to making a pretty penny. Looking ahead, how well it holds over time will be interesting to see. Much like Man of Steel, Batman V Superman is extremely polarizing, and word-of-mouth for a Zack Snyder film is once again mixed. Though critics seemed to outright loathe the movie, fans appear to be enjoying it, which should help. If nothing else, the varied opinions could encourage people to see it out of morbid curiosity so they can be part of the discussion. Coming in second is Zootopia with $23.1 million. Disney’s latest animated smash continues to draw in crowds and is now up to $240.5 million domestically.
In fourth is Miracles from Heaven with $9.6 million. The religious drama is now up to $34.1 million in the States and has nearly tripled its $13 million production budget just from domestic grosses.
Rounding out the top five is The Divergent Series: Allegiant. The young-adult adaptation took a hard 67.3 percent drop and made just $9.4 million in its second weekend. So far, it’s made only $46.6 million in its run, well behind its predecessors.
