Subverting the system of the box office, The Divergent series: Insurgent blast its way to #1 spot, meanwhile Gunman fired way off target.
Internationally, “Insurgent” grossed an estimated $47 million in 76 markets. Even if the film’s domestic results are weaker than Lionsgate might have anticipated, foreign markets where Roth’s books have grown more popular over the last year could make up the difference, leading to a greater worldwide bounty.
Despite finding her slipper last weekend, Cinderella tripped as she slips to the #2 spot, with $35 million. The films fell 49% percent, grossing 122 million since its opening. That's a great hold for the classic tale that has been told so many times before. Never mind this one is for the record books as the Studio has done a stellar job in retelling the tale. Run All Night, starring liam Neeson lost a lot of speed as it slides to third place with $5.0 million, dropping 54.3% since a week ago. The film basically lost its breath before its second weekend, as it managed to accumulate $19 million so far. Obviously, action/thriller associated to Liam Neeson since his role in Taken is getting played out. Misfiring , Gunman took a meager $5 million, opening at the number 4 spot.Disappointing debut for Oscar-winning actor Penn's latest film, "The Gunman," which earned only $5 million on opening. Despite a stellar supporting cast featuring Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone and Mark Rylance, the movie by "Taken" director Pierre Morel has suffered a critical mauling to date, dismissed by one reviewer as a "dull, generic retread." Rounding out the top five, Kingsman: the Secret Service is making great strides as it takes in 4.6 million, slipping 25.5%. The film has grossed $114 million locally and $181 internationally. Impressive, since the film has managed to gain from its $81 million budget.
